| Dilawar conceives Rs 25 cr Drip Irrigation for Horticulture Development | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 26 Government is contemplating to introduce drip irrigation facility to 2500 hectares of orchard land in Rafiabad, Baramulla. The project to cost about Rs 25 crores would provide assured irrigation water supply to orchards for ensuring manifold increase in production and productivity. This was announced by the Minister for Horticulture, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir at an open “Awami Darbar” held at Dak Bunglow Baramulla today to have on the spot assessment of the problems confronting people. The Minister said that District Baramulla is the main Apple producing area in the state and government have decided to provide all modern horticulture technology to the fruit growers at their doorsteps and providing of drip irrigation facility is a step towards that endeavour. He said modern spray pumps, on-farm handling units, cold storage facilities and community water storage reservoirs Under Technology Mission are being provided to the fruit growers on 50 % subsidy to enhance their production capability. The Minister also announced that the scope of Rs 78 crore Hi-lift Irrigation Project, Ladoora would be extended to Batapora and Rawoocha areas also aimed at to cover additional 1000 hectares of land in these areas under assured irrigation facility. He said about six major drinking water supply schemes in Rafiabad are nearing completion which would meet the current demand of drinking water in the area. Similarly, about 12 major bridges at a whooping sum of Rs 15 crore are being constructed in various areas of Rafiabad constituency to provide better road facility to the people in far-flung and hitherto unattended areas and villages. The Minister cautioned the people about nefarious designs of disgruntled and defeated politicians who are misleading people on frivolous issues just to divert the attention from landmark achievements of the coalition government. He asked the people to judge political parties by comparing their people friendly policies and programmes and do not get misled by false propaganda. Various deputations met the Minister during the tour and apprised him about their problems. The Minister gave on the spot directions to solve most of the problems. |
