Srinagar-Kargil-Leh- a National Highway now,
People of Ladakh serenade PM, Sonia for the move

Referring to it a watershed in the history of socio-economic development of Ladakh particularly Kargil, Minister for Social Welfare and MLA Kargil Haji Nisar Ali while echoing the sentiments of the people of Ladakh and Kargil has thanked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Chairperson UPA Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for granting Srinagar-Kargil-Leh road National Highway status. He said that by all means efforts taken to make this an all weather road will boost many subsequent developments on the improvement of the road including construction of a tunnel at Zojila.
The Minister while appreciating the move of the Centre in giving a nod to the realization of this long cherished dream of people of Ladakh has said that making of this road as All Weather Road will not only provide connectivity to this landlocked region but also bring a sea change in the socio-economic condition of the local residents.
The Minister has also expressed his gratitude to Director General, Border Roads Organisation in taking keen interest on the project and appreciated the move for inviting tenders for consultancy services from reputed firms to carry out detailed feasibility report. He also thanked the Union Government and the coalition government of the state and the world bank authorities for approving improvement and upgradation of the first phase of the road for which an amount of Rs 26 crores has been sanctioned.
Among others, who have expressed similar feelings are Chairman Executive Councilor Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, Former MP, Haji M.H. Commander, MLA Zanskar Ghulam Raza, MLC Mr. Nasarullah and people from other cross section of the society.
