Zahoor Ahmed of district Bandipore clinched the prestigious sprint gold in the two-day inter-district state level under-17 boys athletics meet which was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at University of Jammu grounds, here today.
Second place in 100 mts race went to Showkat Ahmed of district Budgam while Munish Bhat finished third. Zahoor, who emerged as fastest runner of the meet, also shared third place in Long Jump.
Later, medals were distributed among the winners by the Assistant Director Physical Education, University of Jammu, Dr Sonam Angchuk, who was chief guest in the valedictory function. Assistant Director DYSS and organizing secretary, Ashok Kumar was among other prominent personalities present.
The athletics meet was part of the annual calendar of sports activities by the DYSS.

3000 mts race: John Kumar, Jammu, Ist; Mohinder Singh, Udhampur, 2nd and Ram Prakash, Samba, third.
5 kilometer race: Champak Lal, Udhampur, Ist.
Shot Put: Ishfaq Majeed, Baramulla, Ist; Ganesh Paul, Jammu, 2nd and Mushtaq Ahmed, Kathua, third.
Javelin Throw: Hilal Ahmed, Budgam, Ist; Sunit Kumar, Reasi, 2nd and Khursheed Ahmed, Inderbal, third.
Discuss Throw: Raju Kumar, Jammu, Ist; Vinod Singh Manhas, Udhampur, 2nd and Zahoor Ahmed, Bandipora, third.
100 mts race: Zahoor Ahmed, Bandipore, Ist; Showkat Ahmed, Budgam, 2nd and Manish Bhat, Jammu, third.
200 mts race: Showkat Ahmed, Budgam, Ist; Rahul Kumar, Kishtwar, 2nd and Mohd Ishfaq Khan, Kupwara, third.
400 mts race: Vishal, Udhampur, Ist; Naresh Singh, Reasi, 2nd and Sonu Sharma, Jammu, third.
800 mts race: Vishal Kumar, Udhampur, Ist; Raj Singh, Rajouri, 2nd and Mohd Waseem, Poonch, third.
1500 mts race: Charan Singh, Udhampur, Ist; Rohit Sharma, Jammu, 2nd and Abdul Majid Bhat, Baramulla.
Long Jump: Manish Bhat, Jammu, Ist; Zahid Ahmed, Pulwama, 2nd; Zahoor Ahmed, Bandipore and Muddassar Ahmed, Kupwara, joint third.
Triple Jump: Vinod Singh, Udhampur, Ist; Jahangir Ahmed, Pulwama, 2nd and Lawang Yusgal, third.
