Jammu | Dec 26
After some initial settling down calisthenics, the Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig is fast warming up to return to the Baig the one existed before September 2006.
Once known as a Minister with strength of words and verbs and a usual psychological pressure on the bureaucrats, Baig has been lying quite low after being unceremoniously dropped from the cabinet in September 2006. However, just in a fortnight after his re-induction as Deputy Chief Minister, Baig has geared himself up to his original attitude towards work asking the bureaucrats to behave efficiently and responsibly.
Baig, who holds the charge of Planning and Development, has asked all the Deputy Commissioners too apprise his departments about the status of works going on in their districts. The Deputy Chief Minister has asked the District Development Commissioners to furnish status reports of ongoing development within 15 days to the Planning department. “There should be strict monitoring of physical and financial status of each scheme and ensuring reasonable pace of work”, he asserted. He said this today while addressing a meeting of district officers of Kashmir division held at Srinagar today to review developmental projects, presently under execution.
Calling for a close coordination and rapport between various executing agencies engaged in the development process, Mr. Baig underlined the importance of collective and coordinated functioning for the success of various developmental schemes undertaken by the government.
Baig impressed upon the officers to keep Planning Department abreast with every detail of development schemes adding that status reports should be preferred to the department after every 15 days. “This will ensure accountability and timely completion of works”, he added. He directed the District Development Commissioners to identify the projects where the pace of progress was slow and furnish a detailed report about the same. “Planning and Development Department will also send a team of experts to find out the reasons behind unnecessary delay and slow pace of work in some projects”, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister further instructed the administration to ensure proper medical facilities to people and attendance of doctors and para medical staff in various hospitals across the division. “They should ensure that every hospital is having adequate heating arrangements, availability of medicines and critical equipments are properly functioning”, Mr. Baig said.
