| Probe into UP blast suspect's role | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 27 Sajad-ur-Rehman is one of the suspects in the Uttar Pradesh serial blasts in November, which killed over a dozen people and injured more than 50. On Saturday, the 22-year-old was arrested from his home in Kistawar district. He was a student at Deoband in Uttar Pradesh and had come to meet his family for Eid. Three years back Sajad was a student of a madarsa in Jammu, his teachers said that he was a good student and there was nothing that could suggest his involvement in militancy or in any other antinational activity. ''Three years back, he was a student here, and was a good student, and he did not do anything that could put him in the eye of suspicion and generally the older students who join us have to get the no objection certificate from the respective police stations where they live and we also keep an eye of them here,'' said Faiz-ul-Wahid, Teacher. Sajad's family members could not believe he can be involved with militants. ''Entire area knows that Sajad is innocent, and we also know that he has been framed,'' said Ghulam Qadir, Sajad's father. The police say preliminary investigations suggest that Sajad had allegedly got involved in militancy after he left J&K to pursue higher education in Deoband area. His role in the UP blasts came up during the interrogation of Huji militants Mohammed Khalid and Tariq. Apparently, a Huji Commander called Sabha, based in Kishtawar, helped Sajad to get in contact with militants. ''We generally don't have any complaint of any madarsa in Jammu region, but this boy was studying in Deoband area and probably there he established some link and this is how this has happened,'' said S P Vaid, Inspector General, Jammu. Further investigations would tell Sajad's exact role in the blasts. |
