| Taj seeks cooperation of JFPDF to improve PDS | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 27 Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr. Taj ohi-ud-Din has sought cooperation of Fair Price Shop Dealers to further improve the public distribution system in Jammu. He was speaking at a convention of Jammu Fair Price Shop Federation (JFPDF) held here today. Director, CAPD, Jammu and other senior officer of the CAPD department were present on the occasion. Mr. Taj said that fair price shops have been opened for the convenience of the people. He said Fair Price Shop Dealers are proving to be the back bone of the public distribution system and stressed upon them to come up to the expectations of the people and the administration. He said PDS would be improved further and, for the purpose, JFPDF has to play a vital role. Replying to the demands of the JFPDF, minister clarified that there is no quota system fixed by the government and supplies are made as per demands. He said 5% commission, fixed by the Central Government, is being paid in all over India and cannot be increased. Regarding issuance of new dealerships, the minister asked the Director, CAPD to stop this process immediately. Regarding provision of financial assistance to the dealers, minister asked the Director to take up the matter with the Bank authorities. Director CAPD was also directed to ensure the supply of stationery to the dealers so that a proper record is maintained by them on regular basis. Referring to the demand of timely supply of grains, the minister asked the Director, CAPD to evolve a mechanism so that supplies are made available to the dealers immediately after depositing the money. Regarding the payment of commission on migrant ration quota, the minister directed the Director, CAPD to take up the mater with Relief Commissioner so that payment is released to the dealers early. The minister asked the members of the federation to work with honesty and resolve petty matter with Director CAPD. Mr. Taj warned the dealers not to keep the ration cards of the consumers in their custody which is punishable offence under Essential Commodity Act. He asked the dealers to display the rate list on their shops at conspicuous places. |
