NEW DELHI, AUG. 23: An unknown female has become a problem for the known male. The unknown female is Sania 'Abdullah'. And the known male is Omar Abdullah, sitting member of the Lok Sabha and president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.
Omar Abdullah is not impulsive like his father, Farooq Abdullah. However, the reported claim by Saniia 'Abdullah' that she is Omar Abdullah's cousin and Farooq Abdullah's niece has virtually prompted young Abdullah to run fast and furious. "No, we are not related in any way", Omar Abdullah has been quoted as asserting.
The tale, as told by a multi-edition English daily on Wednesday, runs thus: After entering Bollywood recently Saniia 'Abdullah' (whose real name is Khalida) went all over the town orchestrating her relationship with the Abdullahs of Srinagar--from Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah down to Omar Abdullah. Omar Abdullah admitted that he had also read "this news about Saniia somewhere". He hurriedly declared: "I don't see her being our relative at all. She is in no way connected to our immediate family though".
Prior to the outbursts from Omar Abdullah, Saniia was reported to have said: "Farooq saheb is related to us. He is my uncle. We haven't really lived together because Farooq saheb used to be out of the city most of the time. Even Omar Bhaijaan never grew up with us. We started meeting only when we grew up. My father was in the Army and we have no interest in politics. Nobody except Farooq uncle is into politics in our family".
Describing it as "publicity stunt", Omar Abdullah has also been quoted as saying: "When I first got to know about this, my reaction was to call this cousin I have never met or heard of. My father is also very upset about this, but he said you can't comment on everything wrong that is written about you. But my aunts are rather furious. They got phone calls from all over the place, asking about this 'daughter'. In fact, they were contemplating legal action because nobody had checked from the family before writing about this. But we told them that the more we talk about it, the molre the issue would get oxygen".
Interestingly, Saniia 'Abdullah' has, in the changing situation, pleaded: "Please call me Khalida! I have also opted out of the film I had signed because my family does not want me to be part of it. They have told me point blank that I will not work in the movie, no matter what happens...."
