| Police Martyrs memorial unveiling postponed again | | | Govind Chauhan Jammu | Dec 27 Police Martyr memorial that was slated to be dedicated to the masses on Friday will have to wait for some more time as the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is not available for the purpose. After the police department today announced dedication of the memorial on Friday, late evening it received communication from the Chief Minister expressing impossibility of attending the function. This is the second time when the unveiling of the memorial has been postponed. Earlier the same was postponed in February again due to the busy schedule of the CM. Friday’s function was supposed to take place in the presence of family members of martyrs who sacrificed their life fighting militancy in the state. We have invited 40 families, 20 each from Jammu and Kashmir division to be present on the occasion and pay their homage to the martyrs, Inspector General of Police Dr SP Vaid said here on Thursday. He said the Police Martyr Memorial is first of its kind in the state and has been constructed in memory of those police martyrs who laid down their lives while guarding state's integrity. He said 870 policemen and over 450 SPOs sacrificed their lives ever since militancy erupted in the state. He said we are proud of these gallant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to ensure our safety. Dr Vaid said names of all the police martyrs are inscribed on the pillars constituting the police memorial. On Monday DGP Kuldeep Khoda had taken stock of the arrangements at the memorial site ahead of its inauguration by the Chief Minister. |
