| FM is back, gets feedback | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 27 Finally the Finance Minister Tariq Hamid Karra has returned to the capital and has begun with the business which should have assumed utmost importance for him. Contrary to what is expected ahead of the annual budget presentations, the Finance Minister had remained away from the winter capital and his office chambers for most of this month. However, he returned today and picked up discussions with the political parties on get their feed back on budget proposals. Almost all major political parties including the opposition National Conference participated in the discussions and putforth their suggestions. According to an official spokesman, the representatives of Peoples Democratic Party demanded provision of social security in the budget. It was also suggested that appropriate efforts be made for the revival of public sector undertaking in the state. The Minister while intervening said that during the previous budgetary preparations adequate arrangements were made for the revival of different PSUs adding that Rs. 40 crore were earmarked for VRS of the employees but the proposal fell short of implementation owing to poor response from the employees. The Congress representative suggested for simplifying the procedures of taxation and demanded that relief be given to people in payment of taxes. PDF representatives stressed for adopting single window system for generating employment through various self-employment schemes. They also suggested for identifying more tourist destinations for giving boost to tourism sector to generate employment for the educated youth. They also demanded adequate utilizations of water resources of the state for generating more electricity and enhancing the outlays plan for development of infrastructure in the state. They also sought a special package for SRTC employees. The Minister while responding to the demand of BJP representatives for region wise allocation of funds said that there was no such provision in the constitution. He said "we deem all the three regions of the state as single entity". Mr. Karra said that the present government has treated all the regions fairly adding that the government is committed to provide basic amenities to the people in all the three regions irrespective of any consideration. State Morcha representative while putting forth his parties point of view said that proper provision be kept for the employment of border people in the next budget. He also pleaded for exemption of VAT on army goods and repairs and renovations of irrigations khuls during cultivating period. He also called for boosting tourism industry in Jammu division. |
