| Sinha hopes Pak to come out of its sordid phase soon | | NCC contingent gives presentation | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 28 Governor Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha today described the Pak situation in the wake of Benazir Bhutto's assassination as very shocking and grave but expressed the hope that the people of Pakistan will come out of this sordid phase soon. On the sidelines of a presentation by this year's Republic Day contingent from the State at Raj Bhavan this morning, the Governor said in an informal chat with media persons that 'our sympathies are with the people of Pakistan'. When asked repeatedly whether the killing of Benazir will have any bearing on the talks set in motion with Pakistan or the people of Kashmir, General Sinha replied, "Not on peace process within our country but certainly on the process with Pakistan'. He exuded confidence that the people of the sub-continent will strive for bringing about peace and defeat the cult of terrorism. Addressing the contingent representing Jammu and Kashmir in the national level Republic Day parade in the union capital, the Governor urged them to spread the message of peace, love and harmony- corner-stone of the State's pluralistic ethos- for others to emulate. He said Jammu and Kashmir is a most diverse State of a very diverse country where the spirit of nation-hood has been a binding force. He said that Indian nation hood has survived vicissitudes of times since the dawn of history. Referring to the mention that the Jammu and Kashmir NCC Directorate being the smallest in size, the Governor hoped that given its existing talent it will excel in all spheres of activity. 'What you lack in quantity can be made up in quality', he told the cadets, hoping that they will learn from their comrades from other parts of the country in Delhi. 'They too will learn a lot from you', he said, wishing their Delhi sojourn to be a memorable event of their life. 'After interacting with you, I feel inspired and encouraged', the General told the contingent after witnessing their lively programme, depicting cultural diversity of the State. The First Lady, Mrs Premini Sinha was also present at the presentation. She blessed the cadets and wished them success during their forthcoming display on the Republic Day. Deputy Director General, Jammu and Kashmir NCC Directorate, Brig. S K Sharma expressed his gratitude to the Governor for encouraged the cadets and gave details about its participation in the annual national celebrations. Jammu and Kashmir has been enthusiastically participating in the Republic Day pageant and the participants have been continuously bringing laurels to the State by their performance. NCC has been an important segment of the annual event. The cadets presented folk, music and dance of the Duggarland and Bhaderwah. The contingent comprised 90 cadets. |
