| Apiculture development schemes reviewed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu |Dec 28 Executive Director National Horticulture Board, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, New Delhi Dr. B.L Saraswat convened a meeting of Apiculture Development Officers of Jammu division and reviewed the present status of the scheme. Director Agriculture Jammu, Mrs Vinod Bala Sharma apprised the chair about the present status of the Apiculture Scheme in Jammu division. She apprised about the opportunities/strength available with the department including diverse climate conditions, abundant floral availability, farmers of our state are well versed about the knowledge of rearing honey bees. Availability of trained agriculture staff with agriculture department who are maintaining 22 number of demonstration cum training centres, quality honey produced in the state especially from wild bush found in higher hills i.e Plectranthus rugosus locally called "Solai" the quality of honey produce from this bush conforms to international. She urged Dr.Saraswat for release of funds in reference to the project submitted on Integrated Development of Bee keeping, honey promotion and processing for the upliftment of the scheme in the interest of farming community. Dr. Saraswat assured full support from the National Bee Board for the upliftment of the bee keeping scheme in J&K. he stressed upon quality development of nucleus stock at the SKUST level and also efforts.required to be made at the demonstration cum training centre of the department. He said that bee breeders required to be established in the state who further multiply the nucleus stock and making availability of bee colonies to the farmers and bee keepers of the state. He further said that the project on Integrated Development of Bee keeping, honey promotion and Processing for the 11th Five Year Plan is quite viable and has been accepted. The funds for the same shall be released very shortly for its implementation. |
