| Kerala Natak Akademi honours Balwant | | | Thiruvanthapuram | Dec 28 The ‘face to face’ with Balwant Thakur a programme of theatre interaction was held with Tagore Theatre in which top theatre directors of south India had close insight of the theatre with Balwant Thakur. The programme organized by Kerala Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with cultural affairs department Govt. of Kerala was presided by famous film and theatre personality Amol Palekar in a traditional style with the presentation of a memento. The programme started with the presentation of a audio-visual on the kind of work Balwant Thakur has evolved over the year in quest of a new theatre Idiom inspired by the rich performing heritage of Jammu. He gave a brief account of the dramaturgy and the grammar of his innovative work which has acquired a distinctive place within and out side of the country. Terming it a theatre of visual images which can speak across language barriers, he emphasized on his visual poetics the magic of which the Kerala audience had witnessed in his play ‘Ghumayee’. He went to minute detail of the each aspect of hs research of last twenty five years in creating a unique theatre form soil of Jammu. His lead actors Suresh Kumar, Neeraj Kant, Pankaj Sharma and the music Director Suraj Singh also shared their experience on working with Balwant in his theatre laboratory work. The Kerala has the richest tradition of both classical and folk forms of performing arts and they hardly acknowledge the other creations unless or until they are outstanding both in terms of its conception and performances. Balwant Thakur’s work not only created vibrations in Kerala but also registered a new intellectual identity for the northern states. Conferred with the highest Indian honor in performing arts i.e., Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for direction in theatre, Balwant has presented his presentations internationally in London, Oxford, Denmark, Bangkok, Dubai, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, Stratford, Italy, Holland, Turkey and Dhaka. |
