| Central team inspects various agri, horticulture projects | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu |Dec 29 A central team from ministry of agriculture and horticulture led by addl. Secretary S.M Desalphine along with commissioner horticulture Dr. Siva Ram Reddy inspected various projects established by department of Horticulture in districts of Jammu and Samba today. The team inspected Grame farm, Maralia established during 2005 under technology mission. The grape mother plants comprises of 324 Nos of flame seedless and 560 No. of prelette varieties of these plants have been obtained from Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana. They also inspected Meadow orchard of Guava which is the main attraction of fruit growers who visit the farm off and on. The team appreciated the new concept of modern horticulture and asked the officers to transfer this latest technology amongst the farmers for adoption so that they get maximum benefit from the latest technology being developed for promotion of horticulture. The team inspected private orchards established under technology mission programme at Sikanderpur, Prithvipur of Jammu district and Virpur, Patti, Thalori, Gurha Slathian of Samba district, and appreciated the efforts made by the department for promotion of horticulture including creation of water resources in the newly established orchards Desalphine was impressed upon with the crop diversification adopted are Om Parkash of Thalori Village who has established Mosambi orchard in an area of 2.5 Ha. Where the beneficiary is also under taking intercropping by cultivation of strawberry and gladiolus. The farmer has been provided financial assistance under technology mission. The team was accompanied by director horticulture M.S Qasba and others officers. |
