In the opening match, Kashmir Cricket Club, Srinagar shall take on Rainawari Cricket Club, Srinagar. The match shall start at 9 am. Second match has been scheduled between Modern Cricket Club Jammu and National Cricket Club, Jammu on December 31 at the same time.
Although the opening of near a month long event will be a low key affair due to the demise of veteran cricketer, Prof Pran Malhotra recently, yet the organizers and the participants are filled with enthusiasm over official tournament after a long gap. However, it has been reliably learnt that Chairman of the JKCA, Mehboob Iqbal is among the prominent people invited on the opening day tomorrow.
“We have not planned to hold opening function tomorrow but a two minute silence will be observed to pray for the peace to the departed soul of Prof Pran Malhotra and also to express over gratitude towards the great lover of the game,” joint secretary of the JKCA Jammu wing, Sunit Sharma told SAN.
In order to host the event in a professional manner, the JKCA has already set-up a panel of umpires involving the experienced hand for fair judgment. “A penal of umpires has been constituted by the organizing committee involving the men of integrity and experience for fair and acceptable judgments during the near month-long competition,” maintained Sharma.
Extra efforts have been put in by the organizers in preparing the wicket and outfield so as to give the participating clubs a quality competition. “We have not compromised on the wicket and outfield. The turf has been prepared in such a way to give the players a feel of first class cricket,” the joint secretary informed.
