Prime Minister assures full support to Azad for over all development of JK
Prime Minister, Chief Minister had one and half hour long meeting

New Delhi, July 04 – The Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad today called on the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh here today and had one & half hour long meeting with him. Various matters relating to Political, developmental and security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir State were discussed in the meeting.
Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister about formation of Working Groups announced by Prime Minister at Srinagar on the concluding day of 2nd Round Table Conference. Mr. Azad informed him about consents received from five prominent personalities for heading five working groups constituted with a purpose to address various important and vital issues pertaining to J&K state. The Prime Minister was informed by the Chief Minister that the major political parties of J&K state and different ethnic and regional groups have submitted their list of the members for inclusion in five working groups.
The Prime Minister was also briefed by the Chief Minister about the successful opening of Poonch and Rawalakot road on 20th of June 2006, where the first bus was flagged off by UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. The Prime Minister was informed about the jubilant celebration by people of entire Poonch area who assembled on that day in large number at stadium ground to felicitate Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Defence Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee for flagging off the bus.
The Chief Minister also expressed his thanks on behalf of people of Jammu and Kashmir to the Prime Minister for his keen interest for converting Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road as the first trade route between two sides of the border in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it is hoped that with the successful start of truck service on this road for carrying goods on either side of the border, economy of the state get new fillip and prove beneficial for the economy of both the Countries. The Chief Minister also informed Prime minister about his visit to Salamabad Uri on 1st July, where work is in full speed for establishment of truck terminal, customs office, godowns with scientific storage system and other necessary facilities required for smooth conduct of trade. The Prime Minister was also informed about progress made in various developmental works which have been undertaken under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme and other schemes. He also informed him about effective results yielded on ground by undertaking developmental works under double shift system launched in the state from 21st of May 2006.
The Prime Minister assured Mr. Azad that Centre would give full support for revival of economy and trade in the state. He was assured that funds will not come in the way for creation of proper developmental infrastructure in the state which has suffered severely during last 18 years as a result of turmoil.
The Chief Minister informed the Prime minister that he had series of meetings today at New Delhi with two heads of the working groups. He informed him that he had first meeting with Mr. M. A. Ansari who is heading the working group which will evolve the measures to improve the conditions of people effected by militancy, schemes of rehabilitation of all orphans and widows affected by militancy, issues relating to return of Kashmiri youth from areas controlled by Pakistan, rehabilitation policy including employment for Kashmiri pandit migrants, issues relating to relaxation of conditions for persons who have foresworn militancy. He appreciated that Mr. Ansari is fully prepared to take up the prestigious task. The Chief Minister further informed the Prime Minister that Mr. Ansari assured him that all issues will be addressed after proper consultation with all concerned accordingly.
The Chief Minister also informed Prime Minister about his 80 minutes meeting with Naresh Chander Saxena who is heading the 5th working group pertaining on good governance. The Prime Minister was informed that Mr. Saxena alongwith group members will consider effective measures to increase responsiveness, accountability and transparency in the administration, strengthen local self-government, effectively monitor development programmes, institute zero tolerance for human rights violations, strengthen the right to information provide adequate security to all segments of society, particularly the minority communities.
