Police today arrested a doctor posted at Primary Health Centre Chogal Handwara for allegedly raping his teenaged patient.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Handwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani told a news agency that Shafeeqa daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Sopore (name changed) had lodged a written report with police station Handwara on December 27, alleging that she was raped by a doctor when she was admitted in a Public Health Center.
"I was on way to Bumai Sopore to my maternal aunt's house when I developed acute pain in the left side of my abdomen", the complainant alleged adding, "I went down from the vehicle and was admitted in PHC Chowgul".
According to police the girl, an eleventh class student, was admitted in the PHC and was provided first aid by the doctor on duty Ajaz Rasool Bhat Ast. Surgeon.
The SDPO said that during the investigation it was ascertained that she was admitted in general ward of PHC by doctor and was given dextrose drip which continued till late night.
On next morning she found herself shifted in the room used by the doctor on duty. The girl alleged that she was compelled by the doctor to leave the hospital immediately so that other employees will not get aware of the facts and circumstances, he added. The girl found herself in acute vaginal pain and was bleeding profusely. Finding himself in trouble, the doctor forced the girl to leave the hospital from Chowgul to Handwara. She reached District Hospital Handwara where she narrated the whole episode to police and Hospital staff.
On the basis of the compliant, police registered a case FIR No 205/07 under section 376 RPC was with police station Handwara and during the investigation it was ascertained that girl patient was admitted by duty doctor in PHC Chowgul and no entries in records were made because of malafide intentions by the doctor, who consumed enough time in giving dextrose and other medicines to the girl and finally shifted her from ward to his own bedroom with the intention of rape and succeeded in his evil designs, Wani said.
The teenaged girl patient was medically examined and her gynecological checkup has confirmed the facts and duration of rape. The circumstance under which the girl patient was shifted from ward to the room by the doctor in drowsiness is being ascertained. The doctor on duty Ajaz Rasool Bhat resident of Sopore presently Bemina Srinagar was arrested by police station Handwara, the other night.
The presence of the girl in the hospital has reportedly been confirmed by the hospital staff.
