| Justice would be done with Khundru victims: Baig | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 30 Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig has said the complaints of irregularities and disparity in the disbursement of relief to the residents of various villages in Shangus constituency who were affected by the Khundru ammunition depot tragedy that struck the area on August 11 last, would be looked into to ensure justice with the sufferers. "If any injustice has been done that would be redressed," he assured.. Responding to the plea by the residents of around a dozen affected villages who called on the Deputy Chief Minister, in this regard, Baig assured them that he will personally look into the matter and call all the relevant records from the concerned authorities pertaining to sanctioning and disbursement of the relief. He assured the deputation that a follow up action would be taken in the matter within one week. Earlier, drawing the attention of the DCM towards the disparity in the disbursement, the deputation from the area headed by PDP Political Secretary, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain informed him that the district administration has adopted an anarchical attitude in the disbursement of the relief. The deputation complained that while almost all the villagers in the affected area had suffered similar damage to their houses, cattle and crops, different yardsticks were used by the administration for disbursement of relief. The deputation said, it is ironic that even the assessment reports of the civil administration are contradictory to the assessment done by the army. Mansoor has threatened to launch a sit-on protest in front of the DDC’s office at Anantnag if immediate action was not taken in granting relief to the people who have been deprived of it earlier. |
