Young Hero and Jammu Sports-A today qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2nd Christmas Gold Cup football tournament organized by the All J&K Christian Welfare Association at Mini Stadium, Parade, here.
In the pre-quarterfinals played today, Young Hero defeated equally good side of Samba Club by two goals to one. Leading by two goals in the first half, Young Hero could not improve their score further and in turn conceived a goal in the 60th minute of the 70-minute game.
Deepak and Rohit scored goals for the winners Young Hero in the 16th and 26th minute of the match. From Samba Club, Chander reduced the margin netting the ball in the 60th minute of the match.
The second pre-quarterfinal of the day could not be decided in the given time resulting into use of tie-breaker rules and the result was in favour of Jammu Sports A which defeated NGR Club 5-4.
From Jammu Sports-A, Dany, Vivian, David, Rohit and Amit were successful in defeating the goal-keeper. For NGR Club, Sandeep, Anoop, Sahil and Karan netted the ball while shoot taken by Anil was stopped by Jammu Sports-A goal-keeper.
Earlier, both sides got equally good chances of scoring a goal but failed in their attempts. From NGR Sandeep and Karan got two excellent chances in the first half of the match.
