Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 30 Organised in a phased manners, the annual inter-district state level athletics meet organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) concluded today at University of Jammu with the holding of prize distribution function in under-19 boys’ age category. The prestigious sprint gold went to Karan Kumar of Jammu while Shakeel Ahmed Wani of Baramulla was second. Third place went to Rohit Kumar of Samba. On the concluding day today, medals were awarded to the winners by Deputy Director DYSS, S A Wani and Assistant Director Physical Education, University of Jammu, Dr Sonam Angchuk. The state level athletics competitions were organized under the overall supervision of Assistant Director (central), Ashok Kumar. A record number of around 700 athletes (boys and girls) took part in this year’s annual athletics competitions in different age groups. On the basis of performance of these athletes, the Department has finalized the teams in different groups for participation in the National School Games to be held in West Bengal from January 7 to January 11. “Out of these near a fortnight long athletics competitions, we have selected the teams in different age groups of boys and girls for the forthcoming National School Games to be held in West Bengal in the second week of January,” Deputy Director DYSS, S A Wani told Early Times. The detailed results: 100 mts race: Karan Singh, Jammu, Ist; Shakeel Ahmed Wani, Baramulla, 2nd and Rohit Kumar, Samba, third. 200 mts race: Ishfaq Ahmed Dar, Budgam, Ist; Shakeel, Baramulla, 2nd and Karan Singh, Jammu, third. 400 mts race: Satpinder Kumar, Kathua, Ist; Parvez Ahmed, Baramulla, 2nd and Anshul Sharma, Samba, third. Triple Jump: Karan Singh, Jammu, Ist; Jahangir Mohammed, Srinagar, 2nd and Niaz Ahmed, Poonch, third. Javelin Throw: Sajid Shafi, Srinagar, Ist; Aftab Hussain, Kishtwar, 2nd and Javaid Ahmed Malik, Baramulla, third. 4x100 mts relay: Jammu (Chamail Singh, Narinder Kumar, Karan Singh and Sahil Sharma), Ist; Poonch (Nasir Ahmed, Mohd Shabir, Maqsood Ahmed, Mohd Shabir), 2nd and Budgam (Ishfaq Ahmed, Nasir Ahmed, Abid Yaqoob and Ashiq Hussain), third. |
