| Host LCC wins by 99 runs in opening tie | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 30 Superb knocks from Pardeep Bali and Rajat Jamwal today guided host Luxmi Cricket Club (LCC) to a big 99 runs victory over Lion XI Cricket Club in the opening match of the T-20 Cricket Tournament at Parade Ground, here. Earlier, Vijay Sabarwal won the toss for LCC and decided to bat first. The LCC set a big target of 209 runs for the loss of four wickets, which, in reply, Lion XI could not chase losing all their wickets for 109 runs in 15.5 overs. Pardeep Bali (79 off 50 balls, 11x4, 1x6) and Rajat Jamwal (67 off 43 balls, 8x4, 2x6) provided LCC a strong foundation on which the team built up a challenging total. Anshuman and Surinder Gupta were other main scorers who contributed 18 and 21 runs respectively. From Lion XI, Sahil Parkash, Deepak Sharma and Yudhvir shared one wicket each. Later, chasing a daunting task of over 10 runs per over, Lion XI made a dismal start losing their opener for duck. It was followed by the loss of wickets on regular intervals making an end to the innings at109 in 15.5 overs. Ankur Slathia (20 off 12 balls, 2x4, 1x6) and Deepak Kumar (24 off 17 balls, 4x4) were top scorers while Gurjinder Singh and Vinod contributed 17 and 14 runs respectively. Ajit Singh and Sameer Khajuria clinched three wickets each from LCC. Pardeep Bali and Surinder Gupta were other wicket takers with two each. Earlier, the tournament was jointly declared open by the vice-chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Sham Saroop Kalsotra and chairman of the Laxmi Cricket Club (LCC) Ramesh Pargal this morning. In his welcome address, president of LCC, Dr Anil Kumar Mahajan presented a brief report of the tournament. He also announced that Luxmi Cricket Club is also organizing a veteran cricket tournament after the T-20 event at the same venue. Before the competition is open, the organizers and distinguished gathering observed two minutes silence to pay respect to the veteran cricketer, Prof Pran Nath Malhotra, who died of a brief illness recently. Prominent among those present were joint secretary of the JKCA Jammu wing, Sunit Sharma, Kewal Krishan Gupta, Harsh Nayyar, Ashok Gupta, Pawan Gupta, Sanjay Bali, and Raju Saini. |
