Natrang’s ‘Ghumayee’ staged at national theatre festival, Kollam

Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ written and directed by Balwant Thakur was presented at the central library auditorium, on the opening of the Kollam National Theatre festival here today. This three day festival of the veterans of Indian theatre is showing the work of Balwant Thakur (Jammu) K.N Pannikar, (Travandurm) and Probir Guha of (Kolkatta) . Natrang’s Ghumayee with its highly innovative use of electrifying music and stunning visual poetics created vibrations among the audience. Terming the plays as fresh cool breeze from the state of Jammu and Kashmir for its originality in content and form, the theatre institutions and the drama departments of different parts of the Kerala are organizing series of interactions and workshop with director Balwant Thakur. A 26 member group of Natrang which is currently on tour of south India is on a great demand from southern states to present shows and conduct interactive sessions on the kind of work and theatre methodology Natrang has evolved in past twenty five years. Top theatre personalities from Mumbai including Amol Palekar, and Jaidev Hattangari are also in town in connection with these important happenings of the country. Being the fourth trip of Natrang group to Kerala state since the year 1996 successfully presented the plays ‘Bawa Jitto’ ‘Mahabhoj’ ‘Aap Hamare Hain Kaun’ in Travandurm, Thiruvalla and Madurai.
The director of the play has converted a Dogri folk tale into an amazing theatre experience musician of the state has not only complimented his imaginative work but has supplemented and enhanced his theatre magic with his soul rendering music and voice. Pankaj Sharma who designed lights and established lights of the play as a language which expresses its moods and shades. In the role of Dulhan the central character of the play, Shabana in her median debut surprised everyone with her powerful acting. Anjali Abrol in Star Plus but these put her life into the performance. The senior actors of Natrang Suresh Kumar, Neeraj Kant, Muklini Sethi, Deepak Virdi and Sat Salarbi maintained their supremacy in performance. They were equally supported by Mohit Sharma, Sajara Qadir, Rohit Verma, Rahul Singh, Pankush Verma, Ankush Lakhnotra, Dulari Parihar, Ritu Chib, Mayank Bakshi, Happy chib, Juhi Singh, Ruhi Singh. Gaurav Jamwal looked after the documentation and Yasin Malik handled the sound effects in a prefect manner. The folk motifs of the play have been designed by Jagpual Singh and the costumes by Deepika Thakur. Dogri poets Champa Sharma and Brij Mohan wrote the lyrics of the play. All over Kerala Natrang team is being complimented for its professionals handling.
