| Harshdev demands probe in electrification works | | | Early times Reporter Jammu | Dec 30 The Former Minister and Ramnagar, Harshdev Singh has sought probe into the electrification works being executed in District Udhampur by NHPC through a private agency ‘L & T’ Co. As per press release, MLA has said that multifarious complaints had been received from numerous quarters alleging of irregularities of various kind in the work. He said that several villages had reported duplication of electrification works by M & RE Department and by ‘L & T’ Co. He said that it is complained were taken by ‘L & T’ for electrification and vice versa. He said that under the circumstances it needed to be probed as to how and why the same villages or hamlets were being shown to be electrified by two different agencies and what was the modus operandi adopted for withdrawal of funds by different executing agencies. He said that people from Ramnagar, Ghordi, Dudu and Majalta blocks besides other had alleged mis-appropriation on the said count which need immediate enquiry. Harsh Dev have also pointed our other complaints of the villages where the latter had alleged that the electrification work was being taken up in only a part of the hamlet but the whole hamlet was being shown as electrified. Inordinate delay and lapses in electrification of bonafie, genuine and deserving villages is also reported by the public said Singh. He also regretted that it was most unfortunate that he had informed the higher authorities of the power development department about the alleged irregularities but they have turned a deaf ear to the public grievances and complaints approache. Regretting about such a casual, apathetic and indifferent approache of the Power Development Department towards this matter of grave signfrance, Harsh Dev called for a through enquiry into the rural electrification through an costing mere than Rs. 40 crores are to be executed in District Udhampur and any irregular practice as alleged would deprived the general public of the benefits of the schemes meant for rural areas. |
