| Thousands reach cave shrine to usher in New Year | | ‘Crosses seven million benchmark’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 31 At least 60,000 pilgrims are expected to perform darshan at the famous Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on New Year’s eve as record number of pilgrims are rushing in to reach bhawan shrine to usher in New year at the foot steps of Mata Vaishno Devi nestled in Trikuta hills The Shrine Board authorities are working round the clock to regulate the rush and is keeping a close watch on the movement of pilgrims ."We have set up special information counters to inform the pilgrims in Katra and Jammu base camp about the status of rush at the bhawan shrine so as to regulate their movement,’ a senior shrine board authority said giving details of measures taken to channellizing the unprecedented rush. Elaborate arrangements for food, woolen blankets, security have been made at the bhawan shrine and along the yatra route to avoid any untoward incident, the shrine board authority said. If rush increases beyond fixed number, the shrine board authorities will stop yatra for some time to clear the stranded pilgrims, official sources said During last year also more than 55,000 pilgrims had performed darshan at the cave shrine on New Year and the shrine board authorities are already expecting more than 60,000 pilgrims this year. This year the yatra has already crossed the bench mark of seven million and is expected to touch new records. |
