| New Year resolutions of prominent political figures | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 31 While the young and the old bid farewell to 2007 by opening bottles of liquor and beer in hotels and clubs, political leaders of various hues made a new year's resolution. Panthers Party leader, Harsh Dev Singh, said today "my new year resolution is to dislodge the Congress led Government in Jammu and Kashmir. My resolve is to see it either out of power on its own or get defeated in the next Assembly poll because all its commitments and slogans proved hollow thereby aggravating peoples' problems and difficulties." Patron of National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah said "my new year resolution is to work for peace, normalcy and prosperity not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in the entire country. My resolution is to work for promoting communal amity and brotherhood. The state has suffered because of 19-year old turmoil and my efforts will be to see that peace and tranquility were restored to Jammu and Kashmir." "As a community leader my new year resolution is to launch a campaign against deprivation of Kashmiri Pandits since their exodus from the Valley in 1990. I will focus my energies on opposing all those processes which aim at compromising national security or advocate dilution of the Indian sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir. While highlighting threat posed by terrorism to national unity. I will work for creating national sensitivity on Pandit community's genocide and the need for bringing them out of the pitiable conditions in which they live in camps in Jammu and Delhi Above all I will make determined efforts to reverse the process of grabbing of immovable assets of the displaced community in Kashmir, including their shrines. The problem of unemployment among Kashmiri Pandit youths bothers me and my colleagues and my new year's resolution will be to fight for the interests of the community people,” said Dr Ajay Chrungoo, Chairman Panun Kashmir. "My prayers is to help me and my colleagues in the separatist conglomerate to contribute towards building a brighter tomorrow. We need to leave a legacy which could make our posterity proud of us. My new year resolution is to take careful and measured steps so that we do not behave like prophets of doom. .I will make my contribution in seeking India and Pakistan get closer for sorting issues so that peace and normalcy returned to the en tire region,” said Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, a senior APHC leader. A senior PDP leader, Ghulam Hassan Mir, said “my new year resolution is to bring the youth of the state out of ravine of darkness. For the last 20 years our youth has been at the receiving end. They continue to suffer and my efforts will be to create a better tomorrow for them so that they no longer have to remain and dismay because of unemployment and poverty.” “My new year resolution is to work for peace so that people caught in the turbulence were freed from it. I will make efforts for resolving the problem of unemployment and ensure growth in industrial and agriculture sectors,” said Mohd. Hakeem Yasin Transport Minister and Chairman Peoples’ Democratic Forum. “My new year resolution is to work for strengthening party unit in Jammu and Kashmir and ensure win on majority seats in Jammu region so that BJP could hold the strings of power in its own hands. I also wish peace and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and hope 2008 will turn out to be decisive year for the future of Kashmir,” said state BJP Chief Ashok Khajuria . |
