| Kashmir Bar will fight sex scandal war in Supreme Court | | | Srinagar, Aug 23,: Kashmir Bar Association led by Mian Abdul Qayoom will appear before the Apex Court with regard to Kashmir sex scandal involving former ministers, politicians, bureaucrats, police officials and government gunmen, and the first team of Bar is to head for New Delhi on August 25. The second team will go on August 27. President of Bar Mr Qayoom said the appearance of lawyers led by him in the Supreme Court should not be construed as change in their stance vis-à-vis Kashmir issue. "Our going to Supreme Court should not be construed as a change in our stand with regard to Kashmir issue. We stand for the right to self determination for people of Kashmir. We'll go to Supreme Court only to plead the case of sex victims and fight a legal battle," Mr Qayoom said while addressing a press conference on Wednesday here at a local hotel. Bar President also questioned the role of premier investigating agency, CBI, in the sex scandal. "On certain occasions during the in-camera trials of the case the High Court observed that even after substantial evidence against many high profile men CBI has failed to take action," Mr Qayoom said. He alleged it was actually the State government which went to the Supreme Court through the CBI. Replying a question regarding the appeal made by chief of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (daughters of faith) Asiya Andrabi in which she asked Bar to withdraw from the case, Mr Qayoom said: "Bar is an independent body and we don't take dictations from any quarter. We have taken a decision on our own after due consultations. This is a case where there is state sponsored exploitation of minor girls". About the new scandal which surfaced in Handwara area of Kashmir he said the police was investigating the case nicely and that Bar will intervene only if the need arises. |
