Felicitating the people on the eve of New Year, Minister for Health and Medical Education Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma has expressed the hope that year 2008 would open a new lease of peace, progress and prosperity for the state and would fulfill the aspirations of the people.
Addressing at an impressive function organized by JKPCC Youth Wing in connection with new year celebrations at Shakti Nagar here today, Mangat hoped that all the people of the state especially the youth would pool their efforts to strengthen the communal harmony and discard violence, which he said has told upon the democratic and secular fabric of the state in most un-democratic ways. He said that Jammu and Kashmir has a mark of being a pure secular state but the turmoil has created temporary obstacles for its progress.
The Health Minister said that the insurgency propelled by our neighbouring country has inturn clouded its own sovereignty. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi have been over whelmingly showing interest in state's progress, he added.
Sharma appealed the people to be united and stand against violence and those forces who are trying to disturb the peace and making hurdles in the development process of the state.
He hoped that during year 2008 the state would witness much more progress and prosperity and prayed for people's welfare and Khushali of the state.
Mangat on the occasion cut 500 kg ladoo prepared by Youth Congress through Sharma Sweets Jammu. The cut ladoo was distributed among the workers of Youth Congress and those who attended.
Senior Congress leader Mr. Subash Sharma, General Secretary Youth Congress Mr. Rajesh Sharma and other leaders of state Youth Congress addressed the function and hoped this year brings peace and happiness to all the people of the state and strengthen the bonds of communal harmony between all the communities.
Earlier, people of various walks called on Health Minister and felicitated him on the eve of New Year. They assured their whole-hearted support to the government for effective development and strengthening of secular bonds in the state.
