Over 70,000 saplings planted in Distt. Leh

The forest department has brought additional 25 hectares of land in the district under forest cover by planting 70,200 plants during current year.
This was disclosed in a meeting of Range officers of the forest department here today which was chaired by divisional forest officer, Roop Avatar Kaur.
The meeting further was told that forest department Leh has till date brought 29 S.q. Km land under forest cover since the inception of forest department in 1952.
DFO Kaur said in the meeting that besides willow and poplar plants, Sea buckthorn has more potential for exploitation in Leh and the forest department is giving concerted attention in the promotion of Sea buckthorn in the district. She said that like Nubra and Leh Sea buckthorn plant is being introduced in Nyoma and Durboomk.
She further said that city forest Choglamsar, Pienic spot choglamsar and water park Spituk would be brought under Eco Tourism so that foreign as well as domestic tourists could enjoy the flora and fauna of Ladakh.
