| Balwant Thakur cultural ambassador of J&K: Pannikar | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 1 Natrang’s director Balwant Thakur gave final presentation of the Kerala tour at Tagore centenary auditorium in Travanduram entitled ‘Theatre of Balwant Thakur in the ongoing national theatre festival. The programme was presided over by the vice president of the central Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi and the legendary theatre personality Kavyalam Narayanan Pannikar. Natrang presented two shows of the play Ghumayee and five individual sessions were also held. Overwhelmed with the kind of response received from the top experts of theatre, Natrang director said that he has been empowered by this encouragement to take new departures in the world of theatre. Getting unique recognition from a place which has a living history of five thousand years of the performing arts means much more than were appreciation. In the last twenty five years Natrang has been struggling to achieve a distinction for the work which the team has evolved through a tireless process of innovative experimentation. In all these years an effort was being made to evolve a theatre which is barest of amenities and is supreme in visual poetic aesthetics. A new language was being invented in theatre which could speak and transcend and communicate across language barriers. Theater should not only speak for today but it must have the potential to live for centuries to come. While speaking about the future of theatre Balwant said that it is the time of theatre. People associated with the making of films and television programmes have exhausted of the new ideas. Film and TV audience is totally disillusioned of cheap programmes. While theatre with its highly intellectually stimulating plays will rule the entertainment world. Pannikar, the vice president of National Academy of music, dance and drama termed Balwant as cultural Ambassador of J&K who has taken the cultural of the state to whole of the world. Appreciating his work Pannikar said that he see the future of the most outstanding and innovative theatre director of the world. The programme concluded with the honoring Balwant Thakur with the presentation of a Kathakali motif representing the classical art of Kerala. |
