| Christmas Cup: Jammu Sports-A, J&K Bank in semis | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 1 Jammu Sports-A and Jammu and Kashmir Bank today sailed into the semi-finals of the 2nd Christmas Gold Cup football tournament being organized by the All J&K Christian Welfare Association at Mini Stadium, Parade, here. While the Christians club of Jammu Sports defeated the departmental team of J&K SRTC XI by two goals to nil, the J&K Bank blanked Young Hero 5-0 to qualify for the last four stage. In the first quarterfinal, it was due to the superb play by Rohit Sandhu and Dany Burat that Jammu Sports-A managed a victory over SRTC. Both the goals were scored by Rohit in the 13th and 48th minute of the match. Rohit scored the first goal on a well calculated pass from Vivian Burat. For the second goal, Rohit chipped the ball right into the net finding the goalkeeper in an advanced position. The surprising victory of a local club over the departmental team brought extra smiles on the faces of the supporters who were in a jubilant mood congratulating each other. The quarterfinal was completely dominated by the strong and professional team of J&K bank, who had two foreigners to their side. Leading by two goals in the first half, Bank men never allowed Young Hero to strike on their goal post. Rizwan Sheikh (13th), Showkat Sultan (22nd), Nigerian Martin Kalewale (53rd), Intikhab Alam (54th) and Ibrahim (66th) scored for the winners J&K Bank. FIXTURE: J&K Forest XI to take on DAV Amritsar in the first quarterfinal at 1 pm while Young Star shall meet HSFB Academy Malpur Punjab at 2.30 pm. |
