| ‘Tall claims turn hollow as Kishtwar, Ramban, Doda suffer’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 2 Provincial secretary National Conference and former MLA Inderwal, Qazi Jalal-ud-Din has accused coalition government of ignoring most of the rural areas of Kishtwar, Ramban and Doda districts. Qazi held an extensive tour of more than fourty days to the far flung areas of the three districts, during which he was apprised of the problems being faced by the rural masses. On his return to Jammu, winter capital of the state, the NC leader said that these far off areas of the state present glory picture of government's failure to fulfill its promises. He said that Kishtwar was getting around Rs 38 crores out of the district plan when it was having the status of tehsil. "However, now when it has been upgraded as district with four tehsils, government sanctioned only Rs 22 crores", he said adding, "The amount is nothing more than peanuts, keeping in view the vast area of the district". Mr Qazi alleged that health, education, horticulture and agriculture sectors in the three districts have collapsed due to the non-serious attitude of the coalition government leaving the people at the mercy of God. "While the government is opening and upgrading new schools and colleges, the already existing schools are at the verge of closure", he said. Claiming that education sector has received a major setback during the coalition regime, Mr Qazi said that most of the schools in the rural areas of the three districts are either without any infrastructure or without sanctioned staff. He said that similar is the scenario in the health sector. Most of the rural areas of Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts are without any medicare facilities and people have to walk hundreds of miles on foot to reach to the PHCs. "Government had made a tall claim of providing basic amenities to the common masses but people denial of medical facilities to them speaks volume about the approach of the coalition alliance toward the masses", Qazi adds. Accusing the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for step-motherly treatment with Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban, the NC leader alleged that all funds were being diverted to a particular assembly constituency thus ignoring the other parts of the region. He said that only Rs 2.5 crores was sanctioned in tourism sector for Kishtwar, which also remained unspent due to the inadequate staff for the Kishtwar and Sinthan Tourism Development authorities. "Kishtwar, he said has a great tourism potential but the government despite making repeated claims have completely failed to tape it for the best reason known to the authorities", he added. |
