| Next Assembly poll dates: Who is correct, Governor or CM? | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 2 Who is correct as far as the dates for the next Assembly poll is concerned, the Governor or the Chief Minister? The two have kicked up confusion in political and public circles because of their divergent opinion on the issue. While Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad, has said that the next election has to be conducted before November 19,2008 because on November 19,2002 the 10th Assembly was constituted, the Governor, S.K.Sinha, said that the new Assembly election has to be held before October 17,2008. Constitutional experts said that rules provide that the next Assembly elections are to be held before the date when the House was constituted and accordingly the next election process has to be completed before November 19,2008.A senior PDP leader,Ghulam Hassan Mir,said here today that “I agree with the views of the chief Minister because the new House has to be constituted before November 19,2008.” Those who were under the impression that the next election has to be held in October 2008 had predicted preponement of the poll as during the month of Ramzan electioneering was not possible. But there would be no problem in electioneering because the month of Ramzan will end by first of October 2008 leaving full month for political parties to carry out campaigning. It is in this context that the Chief Minister said that there was no question of holding the polls earlier than the schedule. |
