Located in the Trikuta hills of the Shivalik hill range, the Vaishno Devi Shrine near Katra, 45 Kilometers from Jammu city, is one of the most popular shrines, which is thronged by millions of people every year. And this time too there is a huge rush for the shrine, as more and more people are queuing at the base camp Katra to go to the shrine. "We have come here to celebrate the New Year. We want to seek divine blessings from the goddess," said Rakhi Bhatia, a devotee from New Delhi. The police have beefed up security in the area for an expected 50,000 devotees. "This time, we are expecting around 50,000 pilgrims here. We have beefed up security in the area," said Ashok Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Katra. Dipping temperatures in the Himalayan region has not deterred devotees as they line up at the base camp, waiting for their turn to trek uphill braving the winter chill. |
