| Discard idea of organizing, ‘Jashan-e- Jammu’: Hari Om | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | AUGUST 23 State BJP vice president and spokesperson Prof. Ahri Om today appealed to the Panthers Party to discard the idea of organizing a week-long Jashan-e-Jammu from August26 to celebrate the July 6 decision of the State Government to create four districts each in Kashmir and Jammu and increase 25 percent assembly seats in each of these two provinces. He reminded the Panthers chief that the decision of the state government, instead of dispensing justice to Jammu,has further harmed it. In this connection the BJP spokesperson drew the attention of the Panthers chief to some humiliating and unreasonable distinctions made by the state government between Kashmir and Jammu. According press release Prof. Om has said that Ajmmu district, which has a land area of 3,097 sq.km. and which consists of 1o54 villages has been left high and dry notwithstanding the creation of Samba (Bahu) district. He further said that Jammu district is far more superior to Srinagar both in terms of population and the balanced area. The population of Jammu district, according to the 2001 census, the BJP spokesperson said, is 15,71,911,as against Srinagar districts population of 11,83,493.As for the balanced area, it is1,882 sq.km. in Jammu district 1,882sq. km. in Srinagar. Prof. Haro Om also told the Panthers chief that while Pulwama district in Kashmir, which has a land area of 1,398sq.km. and balanced area of 315 sq.km and which consists of536 villages, has been divided into two districts- Pulwama and Shopian , Kathua district in Jammu province which has a land area of 2,651sq.km. and a balanced area more than five times. that Pulwama 515 sq.km. and which consists of 555 villages has been left untouched. The population of both these districts is almost equal and the land area where development activities could be undertaken in Pulwama and Kathua is 315 and 1,616sq.km., respectively, said Prof. Hari Om. The BJP spokesperson in addition, drew the attention of the Panthers chief to the fact that while Srinagar City, which is far more inferior to Jammu city both in terms of population and land area, has been divided into two tehsils- Srinagar North and Srinagar South with river Jhelum being the dividing line Jammu City through which river Tawi passes has been left untouched. He also told him that while Srinagar Municipal Corporation consists of 65 wards, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has 71 wards.
