| Young Star improves score, to meet J&K Bank in final today | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 5 Showing the true sportsmanship, the Jammu Sports today played the remaining eight minutes game giving up their stand of a penalty and allowed the Young Star to further improve their score adding two more goals thereby making it a 3-0 win in the second semi-final of the 2nd Christmas Gold Cup football tournament underway at Mini Stadium, Parade, here. Since Jammu Sports were protesting over a decision of the umpire and had left the semi-final incomplete in support of their demand for a penalty kick in stead of a corner yesterday, only eight players could be motivated by the team management for the remaining game today. Now, Young Star will be playing against formidable professional side of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the final tomorrow at 12 noon. “We are grateful to the secretary of the Jammu Sports, David Masih, who not only brought his `protesting’ team to the ground but also played the remaining eight-minute game with just eight players,” president of the organizing committee, S M Gill told Early Times. However, playing with only eight players, Jammu Sports conceded two more goals today. Earlier, the first goal was scored by Raman Kumar in the 75th minute yesterday. The second goal came through Sunil Masih in the 86th minute today, followed by the third goal in the 87th minute, again by Raman Kumar. “The margin hardly matters in sports because win and loss is part of the game. But what matter is sportsmanship, so we have played today for the sake of sports,” secretary of Jammu Sports, David Masih told SAN reporter. Meanwhile, for tomorrow’s final, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mangat Ram Sharma has consented to be the chief guest while Chairman of the J&K Bank, Hasib Drabu has accepted the invitation of being the guest of honour, the organizing committee informed. |
