| Recent cabinet expansion, ‘uncalled for, burden on state exchequer’: Rehman | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 5 Describing the recent state cabinet expansion as ‘uncalled for’ and an ‘additional burden’ on the state exchequer, Samajwadi Party in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its President Sheikh Abdul Rehman sought justification of the expansion, especially when the elections to the State Assembly are just few months ahead. The expansion, the meeting felt, also raises suspicion with regard to playing bungling during elections by the state administration and alleged ‘the government has already maneuvered to have got comparatively double the strength of the council of ministers’ than all other states of the country through constitutional amendment while the population of the state is less. The government is also contemplating to adjust its own favourites as chairman in about one and a half dozen state corporations, the party said in a hand out. Referring to the announcement with regard to opening of new colleges and other projects, the party said this has been done with an eye on forthcoming elections and also criticized the special police recruitment drive at selective places. Addressing the meeting, Sheikh Rehman said that it appears that these leaders have not learnt any lesson from their past mistakes as a result of which the State is under severe grip of turmoil for the last one and a half year .’He will be left with no alternative to seek indulgence of the Governor’ if such state of affairs are continued unabatedly, he added. Among others K A Dev, Ram Prakash Sharma, D K Singh, Sham Lal Mahasha, Preeto Devo and Pritam Pal Gupta attended the meeting. |
