| Third Front can't be a viable force without Left: Abdullah | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 5 The Third Front cannot be a viable force in the country without the participation of Left parties, National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah has said. "Without Left parties, the Third Front cannot emerge as a viable force," he told reporters here last evening referring to the formation of UNPA. The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, however, kept his party's options open in joining the UNPA, led by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu. "I am keeping my options open...Whether to join the Third Front or not. We will decide it on time," he said. Commenting on the Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Qarra's recent statement favouring a separate currency in the state provided the proposal of self-rule got implemented, Abdullah said the "currency issue is the domain of government of India and the state's Finance Minister is too small a politician to speak on it". He said currency, defence and foreign affairs were the issues pertaining to the Centre and Qarra was not competent enough to comment on such sensitive issues. Abdullah said the NC would continue to pursue the autonomy document which clearly outlined that foreign affairs, defence and communication would be with the Centre while other issues would be dealt by the state government. |
