| Has Hakeem joined Congress? | | PDF chairman attends CLP meeting | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 5 The Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today chaired a meeting of the legislators of Congress party and its associate members, where eye-catching by his unexpected absence was the Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen. This was essentially a Congress legislature party meeting to discuss the party stand during ensuing session of the state legislature. The Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen who attended the meeting at Chief Minister's residence is neither a legislator of the Congress party nor its associate member. By way of definition, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen though an independent legislator has his separate identity in the legislative assembly. He had formed his own party which is known the Peoples Democratic Forum whose identity in the assembly has a separate recognition. The PDF which is a grouping of some independent legislators has been recognized as a separate entity in the legislative assembly. Though Hakeem Yaseen has been enjoying a close proximity with the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as he was the only independent legislator to find a place in the Ministry after change of guard in November 2005 but his presence at the Congress legislature party meeting indicates a shift in the political equations. His participation in the meeting suggests that either is planning to join the Congress or has already entered into a tacit understanding with the party. Meanwhile, in the meeting, the Chief Minster impressed upon the legislators to actively take part in the proceedings of the legislature and raise the level of debates. He asked them to be present during the entire session. The healthy debates and discussions, he said, were the essence of democracy and people's representatives were expected to come up to their expectations. The Chief Minister hoped that both ruling and opposition legislators would contribute to upholding the high democratic traditions and the ensuing session would help in adequately reflecting and addressing public grievances. |
