Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 6 Completing their 25 years of existence one of the oldest adventure club in Jammu and Kashmir, Tawi Trekkers celebrated the occasion holding a colourful Silver Jubilee Function in a colourful cultural and memorable prize distribution function at Abhinav Theatre, here this evening. Besides honouring the state’s past and present climbers and mountaineers, Tawi Trekkers also felicitated country’s top three female climbers in presence of a jam-packed audience. The most admirable part of the function was its gathering. Majority of the people were either from adventure sports background else having a love for the nature and adventurous activities. Divided into two parts, the felicitation function lasted for two hours amidst cultural programme presented by the young students of different educational institutions, who otherwise are regular participants of Tawi Trekkers’ annual trekking programme. In the first part, the chief guest of the function, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Anil Goswami felicitated, on behalf of Tawi Trekkers, the founder members, followed by medals presentation ceremony of those who excelled at the national level. The founder members: Prof Lalit Magotra, S S Jamwal, Shamsher Singh, O P Padha, Rajesh Gupta, Subash Badyal, Arjun Singh, Virender Magotra, RBS Jamwal, Rajinder Singh and Ram Khajuria. Among special prize winners were national medalist in sport climbing, Shivani Raj Kaith (Rs 10,000) and Rajiv Sharma (Rs 5,000) while Shoba Rajput was simply felicitated. Among other medal winners were Abhimanyu Sherpa, Bhawna Sharma, Shivinder Singh, Shivati Koul, Harjot Kour, Parvinder Kour, Anjali Adhikari, Vinay Preet Kour, Akshay Kumar, Rohini Chib, Gurpreet Kour, Jasmeet Singh and Ashish Kapoor. The most important part of opening round of felicitation was Best Mountaineer Award, (Silver Jubilee Mountaineer) which was given away to Ram Singh Slathia. The second part of the Silver Jubilee function was felicitation of international climbers and those special guests as also the educational institutions, which played a key role in promoting adventure activities through Tawi Trekkers. The awards were given away by the guest of honour, Chief Electoral Officer, B R Sharma. The individual awardees were B C Nainwal-National Sport Climbing Judge, Mitra Ghose-Sport Climbing Judge, Vathsala, Shanthi and Dasini, all international climbers. Among educational institutions were MNDP School, R S Pura, MHAC School, Nagbani, National Academy, Udhampur, Dogra Academy, Oriental Academy and Sprawling Buds. Earlier, the chief guest, Anil Goswami, who left the function half way due to certain engagements, turned nostalgic in his address to the gathering. Guest of honour, B R Sharma also spoke to the gathering and wished Tawi Trekkers great times ahead. Later, Prof Lalit Magotra, advisor of the club, presented vote of thanks. Best Teachers: Nisha Sharma of National Academy Udhampur, Anita Jamwal of MHAC Rohit Sharma and M L Dogra, all MHAC School Nagabi as also Kehar Singh of Light House Public School, Jammu. Medical Officers: Dr Shyam Magotra, Dr Kavi Raj Dubey, Dr Rakesh Gupta, Dr Sanjay Verma and Dr Sanjay Bhat. Dedication of the Highest Order: Dr C K Khajuria and Sumit Khajuria.
