"No single party can solve the Kashmir issue ... All parties including Hurriyat Conference sould come to the negotiating table to express their views to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir imbrolgio", vice president of the state Congress and social welfare minister Abdul Gani Vakil said. Asserting that the Congress had always kept its doors open for dialogue on all issues Vakil said he was optimistic that a collective endeavour by parties through dialogue will pave the way for lasting peace in the valley. Asking people to be vigilant against forces given to emotional sloganeering, Vakil, who was inducted into the cabinet recently lauded the role of the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in bringing about a change in the ground realities in the state. Claiming that under Azad's leadership custodial killings had come to 'zero level' in the state, the Congress leader said creation of eight new districts and substantial number of sub-districts and tehsils besides the legislation against corruption were the landmark achievements of the Azad-led Government. The minister appealed to people to strengthen the Congress party and not to be swayed by the gimmicks of vested interests always looking for a chance to exploit their sentiments. |
