| Hockey: Winning start by JU XI in State Heros Cup | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 7 Winning their opening contest, the University of Jammu XI today entered into the semi-finals of the State Heros Cup hockey tournament organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today. In the inaugural tie, University XI blanked Stadium XI in the one-sided contest. to Playing as a unit, University XI spared no chance for the Stadium XI to even open their account in the 70-minute long game. Amrinder Singh scored the first blood for University XI in the very second minute of the game. It was followed by two more goals from Amrinder’s stick in the 9th and 23rd minute of the match. Surinder Singh (8th), Ranveet Singh (11th) and Mukesh Kumar (39th) were other scorers from the winners University XI. Earlier, before the tournament was declared open by Association general secretary Jagjit Singh, the executive members present in the inaugural function observed two minutes silence to play homage to one of the member, Amarjeet Singh, who died in a road accident recently,. In all, eight teams are taking part in this knock-out tournament. Next match shall be played between Akali Kour Singh Club and Diamond Club tomorrow. |
