| Boundary between India, China is a complicated issue: Singh | | | New Delhi | Jan 7 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday stated that bilateral relations with China are good but the boundary dispute between the two neighbours is a 'complicated matter'. "The process of resolving the border issue is on.... It is a complicated matter. But I am satisfied with the negotiations so far," Dr Manmohan Singh told reporters here today, ahead of his visit to China later this week. Both countries have held several rounds of talks to resolve the dispute over the last couple of years, but no concrete results have been achieved so far. The Prime Minister leaves on January 13 on a three-day visit to China. "India has very good relations with China. My visit is a return visit," Dr Manmohan Singh said. Chinese President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao have visited India. The Indian PM will have talks with his Chinese counterpart, Wen Jiabao and call on Chinese President Hu Jintao. He would also meet other top leaders. India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee last week had said the PM's visit would not yield any extraordinary results. "The visit is expected to be successful. But if one is expecting that there would be any dramatic turnaround on certain issues, which are long-pending, then it would perhaps be too much," Mukherjee had said. Despite high level bilateral contacts over the last years, boundary issue has affected bilateral relations between Asian giants India and China ever since the two fought a war in 1962. China claims the entire Arunachal Pradesh, a state in Northeast India, as part of their territory. India refutes such claim. New Delhi has also accused China of illegally occupying territory in Jammu and Kashmir. Though India and China recently conducted a joint war exercise, New Delhi is concerned about China's military ties with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. China is also expanding its presence in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), much to India's discomfort. New Delhi feels it is an attempt by Beijing to encircle it. India has also deepened its ties with Myanmar and enhanced its presence in the IOR. |
