| One arrested, illicit timber seized | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Jan 7 Continuing its drive against the menace of timber smuggling, the Kunzar Police in a nocturnal raid has seized two timber laden horses and arrested a timber smuggler. A case has been registered in this regard under Forest Act. According to SHO Kunzar, Police developing a tip off established a Naka at village Ogumna in Kunzar and managed to seize two horses laden with illicit Deodar timber whose combined value is around Rs 71,000. The team also arrested a timber smuggler from the spot. The identification of the arrested timber smuggler has been ascertained as Abdul Rashid Ganie s/o Sultan Ganai of Ogumna who was arrested on spot along with horses however his accomplice identified as Ghulam Ahmed Dar s/o Gulla Dar, r/o Ogumna managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of darkness. Police has registered as case under FIR No: 3/2008, u/s 379, 6 Forest Act in this regard and a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding timber smuggler. Meanwhile the Boniyar Police also continuing its drive against the smuggling of timber acting on specific information raided the houses of Ghulam Nabi Sofi, and Javaid Ahmed Sofi, sons of Abdul Rashid, residents of Hundi Nowshera Boniyar. During the searches the investigating team recovered 37 sleepers and 10 sawn pieces of illicit timber. Concerned Police has registered a case in this regard and has taken up investigations. |
