| Session begins with storm | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 7 The last budget session of the present coalition government today took off at a stormy note with the Opposition National Conference holding forte outside the complex and the Panthers Party rocking the House inside. Meanwhile no business was transacted on the day one of the session as the Speaker adjourned the House for the day even though the opposition members had returned to the House after boycotting the Governor's address. As already expected, the main Opposition National Conference boycotted the Governor's address to the joint sitting of the state legislature here this morning. Instead, the National Conference legislators staged a protest outside the Central Hall cam face to face with the Governor airing their grievances against the Government. When the Governor Lt Gen SK Sinha arrived at the Civil Secretariat Complex for his address, the National Conference legislators were already sitting at the stairs leading to the Central Hall of the assembly complex. The NC members staged a sit in protest on the main stairs leading to the Assembly hall protesting against human rights violations and misrule of the Azad led Government, the Panthers Party members,led by Bhim Singh and Harsh Dev,shouted slogans against the Government. They even stood on the benches trying to disrupt the Governor's address. As soon as the Governor got up to read his address the protesting Panthers Party legislators staged a walk out. Outside Leader of the Oppositin Abdul RahimRather led the charge against the Azad led government . Leveling serious charges Rather said political corruption in the state has increased many folds besides people miseries under the rule of the coalition govt. He said by curtailing the duration of the session the govt is looking for escape routes to hide their inefficiency. Other NC legislators were seen shouting slogans 'Awam ki dushman sarkar hai hai".NC legislators also shouted slogans against the Azad led govt for failing on all fronts. Unemployment is rising in the state and the govt is selective opening colleges fueling unrest in underdeveloped areas, the NC legislators alleged. |
