| Govt releases 566 detenues | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 8 Jammu and Kashmir government has set free 566 detenues languishing in different jails during the last three years, Minister for Planning and Development Muzaffar Hussain Baig said today. In a written reply to the question of JKNPP legislator Harshdev Singh in the assembly, the Minister said 566 detenues languishing in different jails in the state were released during the last three years through mechanism of review. A review committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of financial commissioner (Home) comprising Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, among others for the periodic review of cases of detenues for their release. In addition, detenues are also released after completion of their detention period through the process of law of court, he said. Referring to the surrendered militants, he said 116 cases of surrendered militants have been cleared under surrender rehabilitation scheme for payment of a stipend of Rs 2000 per month for three years and Rs 1.50 lakh in fixed deposit in the name of the surrendered militant. A total of 401 cases of surrendered militants were received for the payment of incentives out of which 47 cases were deferred due to pending court cases, 187 cases rejected and 50 cases under process of verification, he added. |
