50 tourist villages to be developed: Baig

Minister for Planning and Tourism Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig told Legislative Assembly that 50 tourist villages have been identified in the state to develop these as tourist villages. He said the processes of developing such villages was on and the project report for development of Shar Shah (Khrew) in District Pulwama has been prepared and submitted to Ministry of Tourism Government of India for accord of sanction. The work will be taken soon the sanction is received from the Ministry, he added.
20,000 MWs power potential identified
The Minister of State for Power Mr. Babu Singh informed Legislative Assembly that total Hydel power Potential of the state was estimated at 20,000 MWs. “Out of which 16400 MWs have been identified on the Jhelum, Chenab, Indus and Ravi Basins. This potential of Jhelum 3560MW, Chenab 10360 MW, Indus 2060MW and Ravi 500 MW”, he added. He was replying to a question by Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal.
He said, “the state has so far installed capacity of 1869 MWs, out of which 309 MWs is under state sector and 1560 MWs under Central Sector. The gap between installed capacity and actual generation is mostly because of high fluctuations in the discharge of the sources”.
Replying supplementry by leader of opposition Mr. A. R. Rather regarding less expenditure on centrally sponsored power schemes, the Deputy Chief Minister told the House that 98 percent plan expenditure has been registered on various schemes in the state. However, the expenditute of some power schemes has been low for local contractors being unable to undertake the work and national level companies hesitating to come to the valley”, he said and added that this difficulty would be addressed.
Rs. 19577.71 crores have been earmarked for the power sector under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan and other centrally sponsored schemes which include Rs. 15617.87 crores being spent by various central agencies of this Rs. 14907.00 crores are being spent under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan on NHPC Hydel projects, Rs. 700.00 crores under RGGVY and Rs. 10.00 crores for 1000 Micro Hydel Project and Rs. 2802.79 crores are being spent under the state sector.
In reply to a question by Mr. Ghulam Raza, Minister of State for Power said, “there are 27 number of villages which are un-electrified in Kargil district including Zanaskar constituency. The electrification of these villages has been proposed to be covered under RGGVY which stands submitted to REC for accord of sanction”.
Various members including Mr. A. R. Rather, Mr. Harshdev Singh, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mir Saifullah, Mr. Mubarak Gul, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, Mr. Ajay Sadhotra, Mr. Jugal Kishore (BJP), Mr. Ashwani Sharma, Mr. Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Mr. Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon, Mr. Mohammad Khalil Naik, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Mr. A. R. Veeri and Mr. Mohammad Sartaj Madni while raising supplementaries invited the attention of the government towards various power development related matters.
Replying supplementaries asked by Mr. Harshdev Singh demanding inquiry into non-coordination between private companies and Power Development Department, Mr. Babu Singh said that he would soon hold a meeting with centre-state power authorities and private companies, executing works in the state, in which Mr. Harshdev Singh would also be invited so that his questions are replied in detail.
However, the members from National Conference, NPP and BJP staged walk out.
