| Top-ranking HM militant surrenders at Doda | | | Early Times Reporter

A top ranking militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, active since 2004 in Doda district, surrendered before Doda Police and 26 RR along with arms and ammunition.
The ‘A’ grade militant identified as Tariq Hussain code Umar son of Ali Mohammed resident of Malat Chilly, Gandoh and wanted in case FIR NO 132/2007 of P/S Gandoh surrendered today along with one SLR with three magazines and 50 rounds. He was reportedly active in militant activities in areas of Gandoh, Chiralla, Kither, Kuntwara, Chatroo and Kishtwar since 2004.
It may be recalled that Doda Police has been regularly conducting meetings with the parents and relatives of active militants and educating them to motivate their misguided youth to join the mainstream and avail the benefits under the surrender policy. Among other things the policy provides for immediate grant of Rs.1.50 lakh in the shape of FDR in the name of the surrenderee for a period of three years, Rs.2000 as monthly stipend for three years from the date of surrender besides cost of weapons surrendered.
During the last year several militants including some hardcore, surrendered in the district while some more active militants are likely to surrender in the coming says, the official sources said. |
