Yet another one-sided contest was witnessed in the State Heros Cup hockey tournament with Zorawar Club bating Singh Club Bandurakh by six goals to nil at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today.
Lakhwinder Singh struck thrice to complete his hat trick in the second half of the match. Leading by two goals, Zorawar Club added four more goals after the breather to make it a big win.
Earlier, Jatinder Singh opened the Zorawar Club account striking in the 10th minute. It was followed by another goal by Jaspreet Singh, who sounded the board in the 16th minute.
Then come the turn of Lakhwinder Singh, who made a scathing attack on opponent goal post striking thrice in a span of seven minutes. The goals came in the 43rd, 45th and 50th minute of the match. Nitin Dutta added the sixth goal in the team’s tally in the 54th minute contributing his share in a big win.
With today’s win, Zorawar Club has reached the second round of semi-final in the ongoing knock-out contest among eight teams. Today’s match was officiated by Joginder Singh, Harman Singh and Parvinder Singh. Next match, scheduled for tomorrow, shall be played between Khalsa Club and Govind Club Chatha in the afternoon.
With one game remaining tomorrow, the first round of the State Heros Cup has failed to generate any interest among the hockey lovers as all the three matches played till today ended in a one-sided contest.
“Agreed, the first round has failed to generate interest for various reasons. The main reason I think is lack of practice in the wake of no tournament during the last around eight months,” organizing secretary of the tournament, P D Singh told Sports & Allied News.
He added that the ongoing tournament and a season full of hockey activities ahead would certainly bring back the form at the club level. “I’m sure there will be close contests ahead in the next round of semi-finals. Moreover, this is beginning of a season full of activities and you will find clubs gaining the confidence and form,” maintained Singh, who is also resident secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA) of Jammu wing.
