Hand pumps to be installed in kandi belts: Dilawar

In order to augment drinking water supply in kandi areas, government has decided to provide hand pumps in these areas. To start with 20 pumps each in the kandi belts of Poonch, Rajouri and other districts will be installed. This was stated by Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir while replying supplementaries to a question in Legislative Assembly today.
Replying the main question by Mr. Rashpal Singh, he said, “the department has launched some new schemes for providing drinking water to the uncovered areas of the state. In this connection eight new schemes have been taken up under ARWSP during 2007-08 for Kalakote constituency. These schemes are Rs. 145 lakhs water supply scheme Dalogra, Rs. 130 lakhs water supply scheme Badhoon, Rs. 90 lakh water supply scheme Ladote, Rs. 130 lakh water supply scheme Kole, Rs. 50 lakh water supply scheme Sugrah, Rs. 37 lakh water supply scheme Sonchal Pondal, Rs. 35 lakh water supply scheme Maloorian and Rs. 50 lakh water supply scheme Tariath Sonchal.
In reply to another question by Mr. Mubarak Gul, “The discharge in irrigation canals is not being allowed to be affected due to accumulation of silt as these are being cleared on regular intervals. The desilting of minor irrigation canals is carried out within available budgetary resources, department has sought additional funds from Planning and Development Department has been approached for release of additional funds and once they are made available desilting of all canals wherever necessary will be taken in hand”.
Replying to yet another question by Mr. M. Y. Tarigami, Mr. Mir said, “The House Committee had recommended various measures for development of horticulture sector in the state and pursuant to the recommendations of the committee, the department has taken measures to strengthen and boost the horticulture sector in the state”.
He said most of the recommendations of the committee have already been implemented, adding that preliminary action taken report on the recommendations of the committee will be placed on the table of the House during current session.
