| Bill on Shri Shiv Khori shrine | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 9 Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma today introduced L.A Bill No. 1 of 2008 in Legislative Assembly today on behalf of Deputy Chief Minister. The Bill provides for better management, administration and governance of Shri Shiv Khori shrine and its endowments including lands and buildings attached or appurtenant to the shrine and for matters connected there with or incidental thereto. Shiv Khori shrine, about 50 kms from Reasi, is one of the most venerated shrine of Lord Shiva in the Jammu and Kashmir State having a Svaym Shambhu Lingum. The shrine is located in a naturally formed cave. In the recent years the shrine beyond its, local popularity, is fast gaining a national and international fame and faith and emerging as an important pilgrim destination like Shri Mata Veshnov Devi. The shrine has shown an income of Rs. 31,92,054 in 2004 when 2,39612 yatris visited the shrine. In 2005 the income has been of the order of Rs. 40,98,989 and yatris registered stood at 3,06,839. In the year 2006 the shrine showed Rs. 53,06,717 as income and the yatris figure was 3,47,648. In 2007 upto 21 June 2,31,219 yatris have visited Shiv Khori. The government has already constituted Shiv Khori Temple Board headed by District Development Commissioner Udhampur through a Government Order No. 4220-LD(LEG) of 2003 dated 19.12.2003 and subsequently monitory committee headed by Deputy Commissioner vide Government Order No. 33-TSM of 2006 dated 20.02.2006. The statement of objects and reasons for the Bill introduced today says that a need has been felt to constitute a statuary authority for the administration and governance of the shrine on the pattern of the Board of Shri Mata Veshnov Devi and Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine’s instead of Temple Board and monitoring committee. |
