Foundation stone of Pir Panjal Hostel laid

Foundation stone of Pir Panjal Hostel, a home for children of Gujjar Bakarwals, was laid at Talwara today. To be constructed by Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform) under Operation Sadbhavana, the hostel is spread over nine kanals of land, offered by the civil administration of Reasi.
Major General PC Panjikar, GOC Uniform Force, presided over the function. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Sudhanshu Pandey, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, DC Reasi and a host of defence and civil officials. The function was also attended by a large number of Gujjar and Bakarwal leaders and residents of remote areas of Mahore, Gul, Gulabgarh and Budhal Sub-Divisions.
The hostel will house 50 children of Gujjars and Bakarwals hailing from the remote areas of Reasi, Rajouri and Ramban Districts. The two storeyed hostel will have six fully furnished dormitories with modern toilet and kitchen facilities. It will also house the warden office, library, guest rooms and recreation facilities.
Divisional Commissioner lauded the efforts of Army in assisting the civil administration towards improving the infrastructure of this area. The role and noble cause undertaken by Army for betterment of lives of Gujjars and Bakarwals in terms of providing education opportunities was appreciated by Gujjar-Bakarwal leaders present on the occasion. These leaders also appreciated the efforts of Army for providing better facilities to the community in pursuing their profession of rearing cattle.
Speaking on the occasion, GOC Uniform Force spelt out the efforts being made by the Army for development of this area. He expressed optimism that the Gujjar and Bakarwal community will benefit from this hostel, since their children will have access to quality education. He also complimented the efforts of civil administration towards this humane cause.
